There was a time when Gray resident Madelene Taylor didn't feel safe in her own home.In the spring, when a neighbor sold their home and discovered high levels of arsenic in the water, Taylor had her own well water tested.
After the test, Taylor learned of high levels of uranium and arsenic in her water and was told by the state Department of Health and Human Services to stop drinking the water immediately, she said. Taylor also said she had her water tested for radon and the level was high as well.
According to Fowler, uranium, arsenic, radium and radon are all naturally occurring elements. But, high levels of radium and radon in well water are more typical than high uranium levels, he said.
