Most N.J. homes go unchecked for radon

More than 20 years after officials first publicized the dangers of indoor radon, well over a million homes in New Jersey have yet to be tested for the odorless, invisible gas, including tens of thousands in Monmouth and Ocean counties, according to state data. And all residents should test their homes, state Department of Environmental Protection officials say.

Radon tests have been performed in just 5 percent of the 182,813 homes in Ocean County that need to be tested, while the figure is 36 percent of 171,747 homes in Monmouth County.
