Portland Public Schools' board meeting Monday night included an interesting coda to a nearly six-year-old story about the now-defunct Whitaker Middle School.
WW's May 23, 2001 story, "The Poisoning of Whitaker", about the alarming levels of potentially lung-damaging radon at the Northeast Portland facility over a period of years, revealed for the first time the startling information that some officials at PPS knew about the health hazard at the school but never sounded the alarm bells.
