The Fond du Lac County Health Department is offering a free short-term radon test kit in exchange for a non-perishable, non-expired food item to be donated to a local food pantry in Nov.1 through Dec. 31.
According to a release from The Fond du Lac County Health Department, radon is an odorless, colorless, tasteless gas that occurs naturally in Wisconsin soil and can enter homes primarily through cracks and openings in basement or foundation floors and walls. Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer, behind smoking.
Radon test kits are available from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, at the Fond du Lac County Health Department, 160 S. Macy St. in Fond du Lac. Only one short-term radon test kit per household.
