It's National Radon Action Month

Date Published: 01/28/2020 [Source]

Colorado has a radon problem — 50% of Colorado homes have unhealthy radon levels compared with 6% of homes across the rest of the nation.

Radon is a naturally occurring, invisible and odorless gas that decays into radioactive particles and increases the risk of lung cancer for those living with radon trapped inside their homes. Radon exposure is the leading cause of lung cancer deaths among nonsmokers in the U.S., and is responsible for as many as 500 lung cancer deaths every year in Colorado.

January is National Radon Action Month. Free short term and long term radon testing kits are available for Rio Blanco County residents through the RBC Public Health offices in Meeker (200 Main St.) and Rangely (209 E. Main St.) and can be picked up during regular office hours at either location. The kit and associated testing are free of charge. A voucher must be filled out at the time that you receive the kit.
