Radon testing

Date Published: 01/17/2020 [Source]

The best time to test for radon in your home is during winter when windows and doors are closed, advised The Partnership for a Healthy Community, which includes the Woodford, Tazewell and Peoria City/County health departments.

Radon is a radioactive gas that occurs naturally in most soil. But radon can enter buildings through openings in a foundation and can accumulate. At high levels, radon can cause lung cancer.

Households should test for radon every two years. Test kits can be purchased at the Woodford, Tazewell and Peoria City/County health departments and at area hardware stores. When radon levels are high, steps may be taken to reduce levels and decrease the risk of lung cancer.
