Safety officials are urging people to test their homes for radon gas. The Oregon Radon Awareness Program says many parts of the state are at high risk.

Radon is an odorless, tasteless and invisible gas that comes up from the ground and is drawn into buildings. The EPA says radon is responsible more than 20,000 lung cancer deaths per year in the U.S.

The Oregon Radon Awareness Program will be holding information meetings in the area.
