How to test your home for radon

Date Published: 01/08/2020 [Source]

January is National Radon Action Month, and the state health department is encouraging people to get their homes tested for the colorless, odorless gas.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency estimates exposure to radon long-term causes more than 20,000 lung cancer deaths each year. The U.S. Surgeon General recommends fixing homes that have levels at or about 4pCi/L. In Indiana, more than two-thirds of counties have predicted levels above that amount, according to the EPA.

"You can't see, smell or taste radon, but it could be present at a dangerous level in your home," State Health Commissioner Kris Box said.
