The Brooklyn Sportsman's Club, located at 475 Monroe St., Brooklyn, will not only be providing breakfast of coffee and donuts at 9 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 4, but the club location will also be providing knowledgeable information to the community about the impact of Radon in homes. There is no charge to attend the program. It is expected to last about one hour, according to a news release.
By the end of the program, attendees should be able to identify the characteristics of Radon gas; be able to visually recognize the location of different potential zones in Michigan; be able to list the major health risks associated with Radon exposure; be familiar with the most common testing devices used for Radon in the air; recognize the value in utilizing qualified Radon testing professionals and being able to list at least two different types of mitigation systems available.
Radon is radio-active gas that has been found in homes all over the United States. It comes from the natural breakdown of uranium in soil, rock and water. It eventually dissipates into the air. It cannot be seen, smelled and tasted, yet Radon is a cancer-causing radioactive gas. By breathing in air polluted with Radon, a person's chance of getting lung cancer increases.
