Scientists recommend testing your home for radon following the big earthquake

Due to an earthquake in Southcentral Alaska, scientists are warning victims to retest their homes for radon.

When the ground is disturbed, whether it's through an earthquake, a sinkhole or construction, that can create fissures in the earth that allow radon to escape into the air, he said.

Normally, it is recommended that homeowners perform radon testing every five years. Since there's no way of knowing where the fissures have formed, the earthquake presents a new danger and justifies retesting.
