The Mesa and Montrose County Departments of Health have tested hundreds of homes over the last few years.
In Montrose County, about 45 percent of the homes tested in 2008 came had radon levels greater than 4 pCi/L, the EPA recommended action level.
In Mesa County, 36 percent of the homes tested in 2008 had high radon levels.
Officials say there are no hot spots for radon. Elevated levels can be found anywhere. Testing every two years is recommended.
