An estimated 20% of homes in La Cross county have elevated levels of radon, which is the leading cause of lung cancer deaths in nonsmokers in the US.
The La Cross County Health department is working with Gundersen Lutheran to raise awareness and to encourage residents to test their homes during January, which is National Radon Action Month.
Discounted kits are available to La Cross county residents at the the Holmen and West Salem libraries, the County Health and Human Services Building and Gundersen Lutheran Pharmacy. The kits are $6.
